Mobile Azalea Trail Maids

Representing Mobile, Alabama since 1929

For nearly a century, the Mobile Azalea Trail Maids have graced the gardens and streets of Mobile, dressed in iconic pastel dresses that flutter like the azaleas that bloom in our historic city. Each year, fifty young ladies in their senior year of high school are chosen to carry forward this treasured tradition, serving as goodwill ambassador for Mobile, Alabama.

A Legacy of Service and & Leadership

The Mobile Azalea Trail Maids are a symbol of our city’s spirit, representing Mobile at over 400 local, state and national events each year. They volunteer their time, engage with the community and learn invaluable life skills that will guide them in their future endeavors. They also serve as role models for young girls in the community, inspiring them to be studious and involved, with the hopes of one day continuing the legacy of this organization.

Sponsored by the Mobile Jaycees

The Mobile Azalea Trail Maids are a proud project of the Mobile Jaycees, formerly known as the Junior Chamber of Commerce. This internationally recognized non profit organization is dedicated to promoting volunteerism and leadership development through initiatives established by local chapters. The Mobile chapter is committed to fostering community engagement and leadership growth with three key projects: The Mobile Azalea Trail Maids, the Greater Gulf State Fair, and the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.

Our Story

The Mobile Azalea Trail project began in 1929 as a vision by the Mobile Junior Chamber of Commerce to line the city’s streets with blooming azaleas. What started as a beautification project blossomed into a long standing tradition, with local debutantes initially serving as hostesses. By 1949, the first official Azalea Trail Court was formed, composed of senior girls from Mobile County high schools. Over the years, this program has continually evolved, even leading to the formation of Distinguished Young Women of America, formerly known as America’s Junior Miss Program.
